"More Than a Profile to Forget"
At one company I worked in, everyone was encouraged to fill out a Crystal Knows personality profile. Most people did it, read their report once, and never looked at it again. I was the same at first. Until I got curious. When I started digging deeper, I began to see myself more clearly. I noticed what was likely to cause me stress, the situations where I was more reactive, the patterns I defaulted to under pressure. It wasn’t always comfortable to read, but it was useful. That’s when I realised the real benefit of these tools: not in the one-off profile, but in the ongoing reflection. The point is to know your tendencies well enough that you can choose how to respond, and give others a chance to support you better too. And it works both ways. As a manager, knowing that personality traits predict likely behaviours helps me frame opportunities and feedback in ways that meet someone where they are. Not to limit them, but to set them up to grow beyond their defaults. Most of us don’t need another profile to file away. What we need is the humility to admit: this is my pattern, and here’s how you can help me rise above it. Until next time, ✉️ Enjoying The Messy Middle?
